What is green EPS?
 
 Expanded Polystyrene is completely recyclable,there are a variety of uses recycled  EPS can be put to:
• EPS can be granulated and mixed in with virgin eps raw material to make new products -  some grades of EPS insulation board and block moulded EPS can incorporate recycled content.
• EPS granulate can also be used on its own and mixed in with plaster or concrete to make a lightweight building material,such as XPS board. 
• Used EPS can be ground and mixed with soil and compost to promote aeration.  Studies confirm that plant growth is enhanced with this aeration. 
• EPS can also be melted and converted to General Purpose Polystyrene (GPPS) pellets and used to manufacture simple polystyrene products such as coat hangers, video cassette and cd casings, stationery items and plant pots. 
EPS has a very high calorific value, higher than that of coal, and can be safely burnt within energy recovery units, or incinerators, without giving off toxic or environmentally damaging fumes.
 
How to recycle

1. Compaction – in order to recycle used EPS packaging, it must be segregated from other materials. EPS is easily recognisable and can be collected at retail outlets, distribution centres, factories or warehouses. Then the collected material is compacted up to one-fortieth of its original size for easy, cost-effective transportation.
2. Collection – the recycler will send a lorry to collect the material once there is a full lorry load ready. This is taken back to the recycler's factory.
3. Granulation – the recycler feeds the EPS into a granulator that chops the material into smaller pieces.
4. Blending – the material is passed into a blender for thorough mixing with similar granules.
5. Extrusion – the material is fed into the extruder, where it is melted. Colour can be added and the extruded material is then moulded into a new value added product.
